What is Style?

Fashions fade, but style is eternal.
Yves Saint-Laurent

As Yves Saint-Laurent quite rightly says style is far more than just fashion, a person who has great personal style is not necessarily the most fashionable but their whole presence compliments them and creates a lasting impression. So what is personal style and how can you achieve it?

1) Dress for your proportions. If your body is out of proportion, for example long legs, short body, wide hips or shoulders, you can use clever lines of clothing to create balanced body proportions . Your fabric weights, patterns, styles and accessories should mirror the scale of your height and bone density. When choosing hairstyles, glasses, hats and accessories your face shape needs to be considered.

2) Wear cuts, finishes and fabrics that compliment your natural body line. For example if you have a very angular upper half then tailored, fitted, structured jackets and tops will look fantastic on you.

3) Choose colour carefully. Wearing the correct colours to compliment your natural colouring will instantly make you look healthy, vibrant and even younger! You will also stand out in the crowd.....colour alone can create a huge impact.

4) Show your style personality. How you dress shows the world something about you, whether it is what you do, your personality or where you aspire to be. Your personality can be shown through different types of styles. For example if you are girlie and feminine this can be demonstrated through wearing romantic styles, such as frills, bows, pretty patterns, soft colours etc. A few of the other most popular personal styles are:

Classic – you like to look smart, timeless, don’t like too many details, you like quality, to be stylish, this look is suitable for every occasion; tailoring, structure, neutral colours, business look.
Natural – you like to feel comfortable, relaxed, wearing natural fibres, neutral colours, little no makeup, minimal jewellery, earthy

Sporty – you like to feel practical, not prepared to sacrifice your comfort with the latest trends. Trainers, never skirts, unisex styles, jeans and jumpers.

Dramatic – you want to make a statement, be creative; high fashion or just very individualised look, strong colours, statement clothing, over sized patterns, interesting pieces.

Bohemian – ethnic, hippy-ish, Indian fabrics, jewellery, flowing lines, intricate patterns, tie die.

5) Grooming. Look after yourself, exercise, stay healthy, get your hair done regularly, wear make up.....it all counts to looking amazing!

6) Accessories. Keep your bags and shoes in great condition. Jewellery can add the finishing touch to an outfit and add a touch of your personality.

I was able to be completely open, but liked the fact that we went away from the office to talk.

Anyone who said that running is easy should be shot. Now who was that now? Oh yes I remember, NOBODY! No one would dare tell me that travelling in a forward motion, both legs bent and moving one after the other, sometimes at speed i.e. RUNNING! is easy. That's because it's not, but what is these days? No, since my last marathon and during the first few weeks of training this time around, I have come to realise that it takes a great deal of stamina, commitment, dedication, motivation and coming to terms with the fact that it's not going to be an easy ride( no chance of anybody giving me a ride, Ive still got to run), it's going to be an extremely mental and physical and at times, emotional challenge.
