Do You Need a Personal Trainer?

Once upon a time, personal trainers didn’t exist. At one time, people simply exercised as a part of their daily routine and that was all that was necessary. But as the human race began to see the potential their bodies had, they began to see just how far they could push themselves – and training their bodies became a necessity. We generally associate personal training with athletes and with those who have to get or stay in shape for their careers (i.e. celebrities), but this is not the general rule anymore. Personal trainers are also an excellent way for the everyday person not only to get into shape, but also to create a healthy body which performs at its fullest potential.

Exercise and Its Benefits

You already know the benefits of exercise, but sometimes we all need a reminder as to why we should be in the gym and not in front of the TV. Exercise is what our bodies were originally designed to do. Though it might feel otherwise, our bodies were not designed to sit at desks for hours a day. When we exercise, we allow our muscles to strengthen, our flexibility to be enhanced, and our internal organs to be nurtured. Each step we take and move we make allows each of our muscles to maintain its strength and power. As we continue to move around, our muscles are able to move more easily from one position to the next as well. Finally, when we exercise, our heart is more active, which keeps it strong and which keeps our blood vessels healthy. Exercise is also good for the mind, helping us to remain calmer and less prone to stress reactions.

Your Form Does Make a Difference

Personal training makes sense for those in two particular situations: those who are new to exercise and those who are training for a particular event. Those who are new to exercise may not have the knowledge necessary to perform exercises in the proper way. Think about it, if you haven’t picked up a free weight or used a treadmill before, you might not know what you’re doing – and this isn’t a good thing. To help you learn the ropes of fitness, a personal trainer can be by your side from the beginning of your foray into health, up until you reach your goals. Conversely, if you have a certain training goal in mind, you need someone to push you in the right direction and to assess your progress. Too often, it’s too easy to not measure our own progress honestly. With a personal trainer, they will be able to point out when you need to push harder and let you know when you’re on the right track.

Reduce Injuries and Exercise Burnout

When you learn the proper ways to perform an exercise, you will not only reduce your injuries, but you will also increase your results. Lifting a weight incorrectly wastes time as you might not be hitting the muscle group you intend to exercise. If this happens again and again, you will not end up with the results you want. All you’ll end up with is time spent in the gym – with nothing to show for it. Instead, you want a personal trainer who will show you exactly what to do, correct you as needed, and then help to show you new ways to exercise the same muscle. Burnout is one of the most common problems of new exercisers – and old exercisers too. Since it’s far too easy to do the same workout again and again, you need to have someone there to show you how to approach your routine in a new and fresh way. With a personal trainer, they can adjust your workout routine regularly so you and your body do not get too used to the program.

Choosing the Trainer for You and Your Needs

The right personal trainer for your body depends on you and on your needs. You might want a personal trainer who is tough and who pushes you to your limits or you might want someone who is gentle on you and who encourages you each step of the way. It’s up to you. It will help if you schedule yourself for an introductory session with each of the personal trainers you are considering as you can get an idea of what your training relationship might look like. Another thing to keep in mind as you look for the best personal trainer is that you want to be as honest as possible when working with a trainer. If you don’t feel comfortable with your trainer, you might not be honest when something hurts or when you’re getting the results you want. Make sure your trainer is someone you feel you can talk to – about anything.

Signs You Need a New Trainer

Just as with any relationship, however, things can go badly. If your personal trainer isn’t pushing you as hard as you need them to and you’re not seeing the results you want anymore, it might be time to move on. Of course, talking with your trainer first is the best approach since you do want to make sure they know what your needs are and that they have the opportunity to help you out. But if things don’t improve, it might be time to see a new trainer to help you get what you want from your exercise time. Other signs you might need a new trainer include:

• They aren’t showing up on time.
• They haven’t changed your routine in while.
• They are pushing supplements and diets on you that you don’t want.
• They have caused you to become injured.

Absolutely loved it…Louise is a great listener, and responded to my concerns and thoughts with ways to help me directly. I then went away each month and worked on the things she advised me to do. I was able to be completely open, but liked the fact that

Ah…the end of a long, hectic day. Now it’s time to sit back, kick your feet up and relax. But you can’t because your head is pounding. Sound familiar? Unfortunately it is an all too common experience for many of us as headaches affect women disproportionately more often then men. Fortunately there are some simple, effective headache remedies that can help you cope and ease the pain.
