Image Q&A's for July

"My question is that I've resisted Metro sexual clothes so far, in terms of never ever wearing a pinkshirt for example. Lately though I've heard a number of people say that dark colours reflect how person feels about themselves. So I bought a bright turquoise shirt. Great for the Caribbean but not so great for rainy days and pale suntanless skin. Any thoughts on a compromise? I will never wear a pink shirt! " Male, London

It’s true the colours we wear can be influenced by how we are feeling but it also has an impact on how we and those around us feel. For example if you are wearing a sunny yellow top you are likely to feel uplifted and also have a positive effect on those around you. There is a psychology to colour and people give different meanings to it. Black to some might seem dark and depressing but then to others as sleek and stylish. Greens and blues are calming colours; green is linked to nature and blue is the colour of clear communication. Yellows and oranges are happy, friendly colours, purples can be seen as wealthy or spiritual and pinks as romantic , feminine or fun – hence why some men shy away from pink! However a man wearing pink can be seen as someone who is in touch with his feminine side, but also happy and confident within himself to be bold and wear it! Pink can look great on a man but it must be the right shade, like any colour, and also you need to feel like you in it. So if pink sends you running to hide a cupboard then give it a wide berth!!!

I suggest wearing colours that you genuinely love, colours that you feel drawn towards and when you put them on you feel great in them. A bright colour on a rainy day will lift your spirits and those around you so don’t let the English weather put you off! However if your colouring is quite soft and muted (ie no major contrast between hair and skin tone and soft coloured eyes) then the bright colours will wear you so you need to stick with softer colours. You need to pick a colour that sits naturally on you and just enhances your natural good looks! If wearing lots of colour is a totally new concept for you begin with clothes with a little bit of colour, like a pattern, details or fun lining just to get used to it slowly. There are lots of great shirts in different colours in places like Thomas Pink and TM Leeuwen to have a play around with. Ted Baker and Paul Smith also do some great clothes using different colours to try out.

In a colour consultation I will show you every colour that will totally flatter you to avoid any mistakes when shopping. This ensures you always look your best! Please contact me if you would like any further information.

"My tummy has miraculously expanded – help how do I cover it up without looking like a tent!" Female, London

OK tummies, the bane of most women’s lives - our barometer of how many “treats” we have had! The trick to disguising a full tummy is to wear clothes that gently skim the area and draw the eye towards your assets. Wear clothes that are fitted elsewhere, for example empire lines under the breast or slim trousers. Wearing big and loose clothing all over will hide any slim bits you do have but will have the tent effect that you wish to avoid, making you look bigger. Wrap tops and dresses are great as you can adjust them to skim your figure but also show off your curves at the same time.

Create uninterrupted vertical lines on your body using single breasted jackets and coats with a button slightly lower than usual, and if you have the length in your legs to take a longer jacket try this too. This will draw the eye up and down the body over any bulges. Wearing the same colour top and bottoms will also have the same effect.
Avoid any waist bands and belts that are going to cut into your stomach and cause it to spread out over the top, drawing attention to love handles! Trousers and skirts without waist bands are ideal. Dresses and long tunic tops are fantastic for avoiding waist bands altogether.

You can use jewelery, eye catching make up and beautiful big hair to draw the eye upwards away from the area. Avoid shoulder bags that might stop around your waist, this will add bulk to the area.

"What things should I avoid wearing that could potentially make me look shorter? Are there certain length skirts/dresses that could make me look a little taller? I’ve heard that smaller people should avoid knee-length things including cropped trousers, is this true?!" Female, London

The main thing to avoid if you are worried about your height is putting too many horizontal lines across your legs. Horizontal lines shorten or widen an area, so the worst place on your legs for a skirt or trousers to end is across the widest part of your calves or thighs. On, just above or below the knee is actually the most flattering length. Long skirts might drown you so only wear them with boots or shoes with a heel if you really want to, they are best avoid really. The most lengthening look will be wearing trousers that are slightly too long for you with high heels. You can wear cropped trousers if they end below your calves with small heels but it’s not the most flattering look. Avoid the long tunic or dress over trousers look, this will make you look shorter.

Trousers with higher waistbands, which are very fashionable at the moment, will make your legs look longer and so will matching the colour of your belt to your bottoms.

Matching shoe colour with your trousers and skirts will also help to elongate your legs. Pointed shoes are also more lengthening than rounded ones as the eye line is continued further and avoid shoes with ankle straps.

Jackets ending at the hip bone or just below your bottom will be best and if you want a longer coat for winter then go for one no longer than knee length.

Absolutely loved it…Louise is a great listener, and responded to my concerns and thoughts with ways to help me directly. I then went away each month and worked on the things she advised me to do. I was able to be completely open, but liked the fact that

The Muscles: An Overview

The muscles of your legs are integral to most daily activities: walking, running, bendingreally, any kind of full-body movement. However, despite their hard work, our legs are often the recipient of much hatred and disgust.

Sure with the right kind of camouflage you may feel secure enough to walk around without fear of reprisal, but how likely are you to bare these parts freely and with confidence? Do you really like the way your legs look? Most of us dont. According to a recent Fitness Magazine survey only 28% of respondents said they love their legs.
