Whether you're overweight or just simply want to lose a few extra stones for that beach vacation, you want to lose fat – and fast. But while you might have the best of intentions, sometimes all of the fat loss advice you find can become confusing. Some of the experts seem to contradict themselves and within days, what was once scientific law is now not effective at all for weight loss. What's a person to do? Here are some of the most common fat loss mistakes you might be making right now.

Fat Loss Mistake #1 – Not Eating Enough

Though it's been told to us over and over that we need to eat less in order to weight less, is this really the best idea for our bodies? Deep down, we think that when we eat less, our bodies will magically start burning fat and excess pounds. But in reality, our bodies are much more complicated than that. When you begin to eat fewer calories, a few things can happen:

• Your body will initially lose weight
• Then your body will stop losing weight at a certain point
• After that, you will start burning muscle, which will look like you are resuming the weight loss
• But in reality, you are holding onto the fat in your body – the pounds you actually want to lose


Subsequently, when you begin to eat normally again, and you will because you will be hungry, your body will begin to worry that you won't be eating again in the near future. Thus, it begins to store any calories as fat. In the end, your body becomes fatter, even if you have lost weight because your body is not storing fat and losing muscle – an unhealthy situation.

Fat Loss Mistake #2 – Not Doing Resistance Training

To fuel the processes in your body, you need to take in calories from food. Different parts of your body require different amounts of fuel in order to keep functioning. That said, when you are trying to lose fat, you want to increase the number of calories your body is using in order to burn away the excess weight. So how do you do this?

Since your muscles require more energy to keep themselves active and healthy, you want to work on exercises that promote the building of muscles – resistance training. When you avoid this kind of workout, you are limiting the ability of your body to burn off fat on its own. Cardio workouts can certainly help you burn off calories, but they only burn off calories when you are doing the activity, while strength training continues to burn away calories, even when you're sitting in your flat.
