Impossible Goals: How can you achieve yours? |

When asked this question even the most successful man or woman will take pause. What is your dream? Come on think.....we all have wishes. Some have been put on the back burner while life goes on and we attend to those things that got us where we are today. We all spend our days mostly out of habit, comfort, and doing what makes sense for us. In order to change the cycle of remaining in our comfort zone and repeating old mistakes we need to step out of what is familiar and look at things upside down. People easily become complacent when they do not vary their routine. Time escapes them. One day begins to look very much like the one before. 2 months pass, then 5 years, then 10 years. One day you remember that this is not the life you had in mind so many years ago. No matter how far into it you have gone, how old you are or what your circumstances might be today; planning the rest of your life is still your responsibility! This is Key # 1- Take responsibility for Change. I am not taking about the sort of impossible goals one might consider beyond the realm of reality and common sense; such as becoming a super hero with the power to see through concrete, run faster than a speeding locomotive or suddenly cause someone to fall in love with you, although two of those three are now humanly possible. What changes would you like to have happen in your life. This is Key# 2- Temporarily Suspend Judgment Over What is Possible. In this mode of suspended judgment, day dreaming and plausible consideration can be given to thoughts that have been pushed aside because they do not measure up to what is possible today. Your life is really a series of decisions that must be made. What one person desires and dreams of might be called pointless day dreaming because it goes no farther than idle thought or escapism. Another person with the same level of desire will call his dreams creative processing because he has learned the key to making his goals come true. This is Key # 3- Create a Flow Chart That Leads From Your Goal Backwards to You. If it is within your ability to dream it up, anything is possible given enough time, motivation, clear thinking and backwards planning. We must think backwards from what we want to do, to have, or to become to where our present situation finds us. Once we have a clear roadmap that leads from our desired outcome back to us we can think in terms of what is possible today and move in that direction that we have charted out step by step. Once we have arrived back at our present situation we must immediately put down the pen and move. This is Key # 4- move toward your goal. Do not concern yourself with tentative doubts, distractions, or quick fixes. Do not doubt yourself. This was all taken care of in the backward planning stage. Confidence will come with practice. Keep moving daily toward the goal. When a man is on task, knows what he wants, and is moving toward his goal, even the seas will part to allow him his desire. You must not doubt. It is impossible to believe in yourself and then fall into idle worry and wasted effort. Do not doubt that a valid plan is in motion for you to reach your goal. The universe will work with you, synchronicity and serendipity come to be partners in your quest. You will see, hear and feel things differently. This is Key # 5-Expect Miracles.High expectations can really only come from clear thinking, goal planning, practice and learned confidence. It is impossible to fail when you have high expectations for yourself based on what you know now and keys leading up to this. This is Key # 6- Appreciate everything in your life; even major disappointments carry information for you. Your life has intrinsic value. Show appreciation for your life by surrounding yourself with others who are living by the values that you have created for yourself. Do not allow others to bring you down to their level. You will grow to learn more about what you want for your life the more time that you spend in the company of persons you admire. Before you can do this you must totally honor your own value system and be living by those values you hold in high regard. Become the person you would want to spend time with. This is Key # 7 -To Have A Friend you Must Be a Friend. Remember the successes and only notice the failures. When a negative thought or remembered disappointment slips in to your memory do not try to change it or remove this memory but do not react to it. Only notice that it is showing up again and say to yourself, “There is that thought again.” In order to learn from disappointment, mistake, loss, and be able to move forward you must notice these thoughts when they appear. Do not make excuses for your failures, shortcomings, and bad decisions because this will lesson your power to make changes in your life. No excuses, and no reaction, just notice the thoughts for the mistakes they are and do not add emotion or put any significance with these thoughts. This is Key # 8- Give Yourself A Break. If you have shared your desire for change with someone there-by enlisting them to help you with your quest, they may make it personal. Perhaps this person will take on responsibility for change by thinking of themselves as your personal life coach. They may even become a bit more eager to see results than you are and will try to induce action sooner than you are ready to move. Just remember that you asked them for help and do not fight them. You brought them into your life so you must now trust that they have your best interest in mind. You made the decision to ask them to support you so now is not the time to argue about the methods or timing of their help. This is Key # 9-Accept solicited critique. The power is with you. It dose not matter what your situation, you were a necessary part of creating the situation so it follows that your active participation is needed to make reconciliation or improvements. Even the impossible goal may be evoked by you to get to where you want to be. Just remember when you get to where you are going, there you are.
