Jenny Craig Diet

This article is part of the Explaining Diets in Detail special, click here for more information.

The Jenny Craig diet is based on the idea of having a specific calorie intake plan for each individual person.

Where Did It Originate?

Jenny Craig is the founder of Jenny Craig, Inc. In 1983, she had her first commercial weight loss program in Australia, the success of which led her to expand the program into the other markets in 1985, becoming the big hit seen today.

How Does It Work/Details

The idea behind the Jenny Craig diet is for each individual to receive a specific calorie intake plan, after which, you receive a weekly menu. The majority of the weekly menu consists of food bought via Jenny Craig. In addition to this, there is one-on-one consulting each week, as well as the weighing in and purchasing of food for the following week.

Benefits

One of the main benefits of the Jenny Craig diet is the support given by the people who work at Jenny Craig. The one-on-one consulting and the calorie intake plan geared specifically for the individual helps provide the support and attention required in order for a person to successfully complete a diet. In addition to having great support for those undertaking the diet, many people enjoy the food bought through Jenny Craig.

Caveats

One of the downsides to the Jenny Craig diet is the cost. In addition to the cost of the various plans you can setup, the cost of food which is to be bought through Jenny Craig is relatively expensive. This can turn a lot of people off from this diet, with food costs running up to $125 a week for an individual. In addition to the food costs, some plans might result in a person being forced to adapt to several, small meals throughout the day, rather than a few, large meals. This can be hard at first. In addition, Jenny Craigs counseling employees arent necessarily nutritionists.

Should I Try It?

The Jenny Craig diet is not a long term solution to weight loss. While reigning in your calories is a good start, youll also need to undertake a movement regimen that is designed for your body type and fitness level. In addition, the support system that you surround yourself with while dieting should be well-trained experts in the area.
