| Right from our childhood, we have grown up hearing this advice �drink more water.� But why is it so important to drink enough water, apart from the fact that you have to drink it to quench your thirst?
Research on the effect of water on our body certainly gives a good answer as to why water is so important for our health and even our survival. 1) Water is a major component of our body Yes, studies show that almost 65 to 70 percent of human body is made of water. Surprised? This makes it more important than other elements in our body. 2) Water controls our body temperature Water is essential to keep our body temperature normal. This is truer during summer when we lose moisture due to heat and sweat. Even during winter, our body needs enough water to keep the internal organs working properly. 3) Important body functions depend on water Water performs the important function of distributing essential nutrients to various parts of our body. It plays major role in removing toxins in the body, in the form of sweat, urine and through bowel movements. The importance of the water can be further understood by the fact that water is needed by each cell in our body and each tissue in our body. It is need for that soft, radiant skin, healthy blood and strong tissues. No wonder, when we drink less water, we start facing health problems which seem mild in the beginning but take severe form if neglected for longer duration. Initial signal for water shortage in our bodies are the headaches or dizziness and yellowish color of urine. The other common complaint that arises due to water shortage in our body is constipation. Drinking enough water is one of the best remedies for constipation. However, many other serious complications may also develop due to longer duration of water shortage in our body, such as the kidney stones, arthritis, diabetes, blood pressure, migraines, joint pain, menopause troubles, various forms of allergies etc. 4) Cleans your body It is not just the insides of your body that need water. Your skin needs it too. Clean water is the best way to keep your skin neat and healthy. 5) Water also helps in weight loss! When you drink sufficient water, you feel less hungry. This helps to control irrational craving for food which is so important to control weight. Also, if you sip water slowly, you will feel as if your stomach is full. Now you can see why water is so important? But how much water should you drink? Many health experts as well as studies suggest that we should try to drink around 2 to 3 liters of water every day. This means, roughly you should drink 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Those who are physically active or play sports regularly should especially take care to drink more water, as muscles need more water for their maintenance.
