Healthy Relationships: Reach Out, Communicate, Bond |
||
| Its sometimes easiest to explain healthy relationships in the context of opposites: unhealthy relationships can kill you. They can increase stress, increase blood pressure, and drain you emotionally.
Studies show that supportive relationships can bolster you. They are valuable to your emotional health, which makes them, in turn, valuable to your physical health, too. The human connection in and of itself is inherently beneficial. Lets take a look at how to forge these healthy relationships. Reach Out Once you realize the importance of healthy connections, its only a matter of how to pursue them. Perhaps youve neglected friends in the past, or kept relationships at arms length. Now that you know the importance of those people in your life, its time to better cultivate those connections. On the other hand, maybe you need to begin anew. Doing so is quite easy. Begin by placing yourself among the kind of people youd like to meet. Join a club or help a charity. Attend events or visit places that mean something to you. Simply reach out. Communicate After establishing healthy relationships, its equally important to maintain them. The easiest way to do that is to facilitate communication. Keep in mind some basic communication rules for healthy a give and take. For example, practice focused listening. Do your friend a favor by demonstrating superior empathy skills. The first step is uninterrupted listening! Bond Solidify your relationships by bonding. Engage in activities that your support system/BFF have in common. Laugh a little, have fun, and bonding comes naturally! |
