Healthy Relationships: Reach Out, Communicate, Bond

Its sometimes easiest to explain healthy relationships in the context of opposites: unhealthy relationships can kill you. They can increase stress, increase blood pressure, and drain you emotionally.

Studies show that supportive relationships can bolster you. They are valuable to your emotional health, which makes them, in turn, valuable to your physical health, too. The human connection in and of itself is inherently beneficial.

Lets take a look at how to forge these healthy relationships.

Reach Out

Once you realize the importance of healthy connections, its only a matter of how to pursue them. Perhaps youve neglected friends in the past, or kept relationships at arms length. Now that you know the importance of those people in your life, its time to better cultivate those connections.

On the other hand, maybe you need to begin anew. Doing so is quite easy. Begin by placing yourself among the kind of people youd like to meet. Join a club or help a charity. Attend events or visit places that mean something to you. Simply reach out.

Communicate

After establishing healthy relationships, its equally important to maintain them. The easiest way to do that is to facilitate communication. Keep in mind some basic communication rules for healthy a give and take. For example, practice focused listening. Do your friend a favor by demonstrating superior empathy skills. The first step is uninterrupted listening!

Bond

Solidify your relationships by bonding. Engage in activities that your support system/BFF have in common. Laugh a little, have fun, and bonding comes naturally!

At the end of the session I felt very empowered and ready to make changes to my life. The steps were broken down by Louise and so felt very achievable

You see it everywhere this time of year, that white flaky stuff. No, not snow, I’m talking about your skin, your dry, flaky, itchy skin. Dry skin is a very common problem, and is often exacerbated during the winter when we tend to spend more time indoors with humidity-sucking heaters. Dry skin knows no economic or cultural barriers. It occurs at all ages and in people with or without other skin problems. It’s annoying, unattractive and can even be downright painful. So what’s a harried mum to do? We are already way too busy to divert our schedules to include scratching time.
