One-Minute Meditation

Is there power in one minute meditation? Indeed there is! One minute meditation can nourish your mind, relax your body and focus your mental energies so that you can get on with your life! Ready to give it a try? Here’s how to introduce one minute meditation into your life.

Place Yourself

No need for pillows and temples here. Instead, find a quiet space, free from distractions and interruptions. If you’re having trouble with placement, don’t let that deter your meditation entirely. Instead, do your best to place yourself, and let the rest take care of itself.

Position Yourself

Find a relaxing position that is conducive to your environment. If you have privacy, you may want to try sitting in zazen posture- the true Buddhist style of seated meditation, with folded hands, folded legs and a relaxed, straight spine. However, simply settling into your office chair, with no tensed muscles or unbalanced posturing, will feel invigorating, too.

Just Breathe

Close your eyes and inhale slowly and deeply through your nose. Nose-breathing expands the diaphragm in a way that concentrates air into the bottom part of your lungs, causing a thorough oxygenation of your body. Considering the fact that the majority of your breathing throughout the day is done in short, shallow breaths, this type of breathing alone will work wonders on your mood.

Exhale gently and naturally through your mouth, without blowing or forced breaths. Repeat the exercise slowly and methodically with eyes closed for maximum relaxation.

Find Your Trigger

A trigger is your body’s signal that it’s time to meditate. Some experts suggest an external trigger, such as at the completion of lunch or beginning of the day. Others reserve one-minute meditation for times of extreme stress, so that it acts as an “ace in the hole” stress relief technique. Do what is best in your situation.

Get Some Support

Consider signing up for one-minute mediation reminders, or inspirational emails that will act as your trigger. In addition, you may want to spread the word to family members and co-workers, so that your new undertaking isn’t interrupted or misinterpreted!

Feedback

It helped me to change my attitude and give me ideas on how I can like the things I'm not too keen on more, within the job; how I can adjust my thinking to find ways to improve myself and in turn the happiness in my work.
